A guide to the best of the West end

A guide to the best of the West end

On Tuesday,15th of October 2019 the hotel celebrated two years of serving guests in Perth city’s West End. The location offered at InterContinental Perth is much like the service and product; second to none. So to celebrate the terrific two’s we have put together a list of our absolute favourite neighbours in the Precinct; they make the location what it is and complement InterContinental Perth perfectly. Make sure to look them up and include them in your itinerary on your next visit.

You have never seen a workout like this before; sitting opposite the hotel a quick three minute walk away; S30 is the brainchild of three dedicated and passionate coaches who have breathed life into a concept that is already thee go-to training session in Perth city, less than a year from opening. Think low-lights, DJ deck, contemporary hits that vibrate through you and hi-tech excercise machinery that will challenge you, to say the least. If you’re a fitness fanatic, love to move your body or you just live for trying something new this is a definite must to get your pulse up. The S30 range of classes all involve muscle toning, lifting and a bit of cardio here and there alongside racking up some repetitions on the (somewhat intimidating) machines; all set up in a myriad of classes to peak your interest. If you want to eat breakfsat guilt-free, make sure you schedule in one of these high-intensity classes to kick-start your day.

A passion for fashion and a penchant for luxury brands will lead you to one of our favourite boutiques – CultStatus. With a window usually dressed head to toe in Chloe handbag-chic, this store is dripping in inspiration for your next special purchase. The service at CultStatus will make you feel like you’re shopping with your best friend; only the very best product sit on the beautifully-lit shelves in a fantastic range of shades and textures. Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang, Deadly Ponies are just some of the famous names you can sift through and try on at your leisure. IF you are looking to do a bit of a treat-yourself moment, this gem is only a five minute walk down King Street from the hotel.

Toastface Grillah

A firm favoruite in Perth city, Toastface Grillah has been turning out tip-top toasties to corporates, kids and city-goers alike for a long while now. Their delicious grilled toasties are made with love and too much cheese and are an excellent option for a quick lunch during your adventures around the nigbourhood.

Located down colourful Wolf Lane, take in the vibrant and urban street art that this laneway is famous for. Littered with cosy bars which come to life when the working day is over, a cheeky wine is up for grabs if you’re in the mood.

endota spa Perth CBD

A holiday or staycation really isn’t complete without a spa date – and sitting right opposite the hotel at the centre of Perth city, on Hay Street is the cloud-nine like endota spa. A floor above the busy bustle of Hay Street, not a sound penetrates these walls and the scents of the spa are enough to lull you into a light coma. Sip on rosewater tea whilst waiting for your facial or full body massage, have a look at the wall of beautiful skin products that are likely to make you feel like the next beauty influencer.

endota spa has a national reputation for excellence and guests of InterContinental Perth receive 15% off at endota spa Perth CBD all treatments when they book through the hotel concierge. A menu that has a treatment for everyone will leave you with some big decisions to make; we’d highly recommend the hydro-microdermabrasion facial and the soothing stones full body massage.

Ascua Spanish Grill

Tucked away on the corner of Hay and King St, opposite to the theatre, sits the fiery flavours of Ascua Spanish Grill. Specialising in tomahawk steaks from the Stirling Ranges  that reach sizes of 2.2kgs, Ascua is the picture of a romantic date-night venue. The waitstaff are well-versed in the menu and can recommend wine matching with each dish. The large barbacoa (Spanish woodfire grill) is on display for patrons to see, along with the open-theatre kitchen. Up near the kitchen are high-benches which constitute what is called “The Chef’s Table” – guests can pay a little extra to be served by the chef of the venue himself with special dishes throughout the evening.

This is a perfect spot for a special meal with friends or a partner and is conveniently located on the ground floor of the hotel.

Elizabeth’s Bookshop

Tsundoku – a Japanese word for a person who is obessesed with acquiring reading material – guilty!

If curling up with a good book and a glass of wine in a sunny corner is your idea of a stay well-spent then Elizabeth’s bookshop really is a west-end secret that you will appreciate. Pre-loved books in perfect condition lining old wooden shelves full of character and colour. If you like the smell of books, you will want to bottle the scent in this store.

One of the most unique aspects of Elizabeth’s Bookshop is “Blind Date With A Book”. Wrapped in brown paper and string, with a few choice clues on the front as to the contents of the pages, these books challenge you to take a risk and purchase them without knowing what you are getting yourself into. A unique way to try something new and dive into literature that might be right up your alley without you knowing. The very epitome of not judging a book by it’s cover – well played Elizabeth’s!

A one minute walk across from the hotel in Perth city centre, Hay Street.

A family name synonymous with the very best designs and quality in diamond and pearl jewellery in Western Australia – the Linney family have added to their extensive portfolio and opened a stunning showroom on King Street, complete with marble champagne bar to celebrate finding the perfect piece to complement your collection. Set in a stunning heritage building along King Street, a short five minute walk from the hotel, Linneys gives you a little piece of Western Australia to wear with you always.

Alan Linney, father to Justin, Troy and Nathan, designs all of their stunning pieces, which showcase Australian South Sea Pearls as well as some of the most amazing coloured diamonds, including Argyle pink diamonds. The family has been trusted in the WA market for decades, and recently won WA family business Australia Hall of Fame Award. Visit the sparkling piece of paradise at 61 King St, a short five minute stroll from the hotel in Perth city centre.

King Street Collective

Nestled away in the corner of King St, a retail oasis showcasing the very best of WA artisan art, ceramics, plants, skincare, jewellery and much more is waiting to be discovered. King St Collective is the go-to for gifts and, what we consider tasteful souvenirs that reflect rather beautifully the very best of Western Australia. The homewares, candles, linen sprays (we really could go on all day) and endless shelves of trinkets that are fantastic in quality and always presented beautifully will have you browsing for a good chunk of your day; we like to rotate through the goods two or three times to make sure we haven’t missed anything.

If you enjoy DIY projects or workshops, the King St Collective hosts amazing masterclasses in the art of fun; learn how to make your own succulent bowl or leather sewn handbag with Perth brand Farlands. Supporting local is an effort close to the hearts of many Western Australians, and at InterContinental Perth we strongly endorse goods made in our sunny state, making King St Collective a firm favourite and a number one recommendation for your itinerary.

His Majesty’s Theatre

A Western Australian treasure, this Edwardian Baroque theatre, constructed between 1902-1904, has all the character and imagination of a Disney movie, and stepping into its doors transports you to another world. We would call the theare the very heart of the West End of the city, carrying stories in its walls and sharing magical productions and experiences with the people of Perth that become life-long memroies for many patrons.

A stage for production companies like the Western Australian Ballet and Wetsern Australian Opera, WA Youth Jazz Orchestra and many more the His Majestys is home to the artisan and performer and everyone who finds a thrill in watching magic take place before them. Standing proud right next to InterContinental Perth in the city’s centre. This Christmas season, His Majesty’s will become home to WA Ballet’s latest production, Alice (In Wonderland) – the most vibrant and colourful story told yet. A weekend with the family must in our opinion; this is one you do not want to miss.

The Loft Bar

If you love a rooftop bar (and who doesn’t love a rooftop bar) The Loft Bar on the first level of 815 Hay Street is a hidden halcyon specialising in everything tipple-related. Overlooking art deco architecture with vertical gardens softening the city centre views, the space is tranquil and a definite stop-in before a night out or a night-cap before settling in.

From the terrace you can see the Adnate mural, reaching up across 26 stories into the sky. This breath-taking piece of artwork is the largest mural in the Southern Hemisphere and definitely worth catching a glimpse of during your city staycation. The Loft Bar also specialises in Gin High Tea if you and your girlfriends were looking for an afternoon delight.

Now that you have a few ideas about what you can get up to, why not book a weekend at InterContinental Perth and explore this wonderful corner of Perth city and all it has to offer. Book here or call us today 08 9486 5733.
