His Majesty's Theatre

Since opening on Christmas Eve in 1904 with a performance of The Forty Thieves, His Majesty’s Theatre (or ‘The Maj’, as it is affectionately known) has become one of Western Australia’s most-loved heritage icons.

The significance of His Majesty’s Theatre to the cultural fabric of Western Australia has been recognised by its inclusion on the State Register of Heritage Places and Classification by the National Trust of Western Australia. It has also been named a “State Heritage Icon” and is one of the last remaining working Edwardian theatres in the Southern Hemisphere.

Today, His Majesty’s Theatre is Perth’s premier destination to enjoy an evening of first-class international or local performing arts. The main stage features a stunning proscenium arch and offers access to the newly restored balconies, offering sweeping views of Perth City. For a more intimate evening, head underground to Downstairs at The Maj, Perth’s best destination to enjoy live and local cabaret or immersive dining-theatre.
